Nuisance on the LRT

I usually mind my own business when I take the LRT. Even if somebody dresses up looking like a clown I would not take the opportunity to laugh mockingly at his fashion sense:

However, Reggae man then proceeded to play at full volume an exteremely unpalatable heavy metal song on the speakers of his Nokia handphone. I could see the rest of the passengers in the coach were feeling annoyed.

I could recollect that there was a mother with small children, a middle aged lady and a 70-year old Chinese man amongst them. I doubt that they shared his passion for what I could guess were the enchanting sounds of XPDC (I couldn't tell from the noise but his t-shirt provided a clue). Being Malaysians, I guess the natural thing to do was to bear with the situation and not create a fuss.

My sense of community spirit was invoked. I told the fellow:

"Awak ni betul-betul tak bertimbangrasa. Muzik awak tu bising sangat. Bukan semua orang nak dengar."

Reggae idiot just ignored me. I was hoping that my fellow passengers would join in, but I could see that they were becoming more awkward with the situation. I tried to encourage them by asking the crowd, "Betul tak?"

Nobody flinched but at least the Chinese uncle smiled and nodded. But there was still no reaction from Reggae wanker.

I took the phone from his lap, threw it to the floor and stomped on it, breaking it into pieces. I scooped up the pieces and dropped them on his Rasta headgear.

Well, I didn't actually although I really felt like doing it. I left the train immediately after when I reached my stop.

I could only settle for publicly humiliating the bastard on this blog. Woah! Check out the air guitar!

Mr Incognito, you disappoint me. I thought I have taught you better.

You should've just smashed his phone to pieces instead of thinking about it :-)

I'm a non-violent person, can't u see? Besides, shaming idiots on the net is more fun.

Hi Mr Incognito,

Boy! You simply have no idea how relieved I was all that violence of smashing the hp was all in your mind. You have gained my respect again, but not a couple of seconds ago.

Honestly, I have a funny take on this. I really really pity our youths today. They are victims of circumstance. The education system is not wholesome as compared to before. There's more poverty around and parents who are cash strapped don't have time for their kids and that is understandable with all the commuting and traffic jams, by the time thay are home they are zonked.

So the youngsters are left to figure life and that is a tough task I'd say.

I do pity the lost souls. I am myself at my wits end as to how our nation can be better. I have decided to give back within my ability and that is to go back to my alma mater and help all I can and hope these kids will graduate and create the chain.

I forgot to add, that what you did by making effort to tell him what he did was wrong, was quite a fine thing to do. After all what he did was still wrong. Kudos.

Wow, putting up your own U-Tube video.. Too bad, the nuisance that is coming from the phone is rather inaudible.

Anyway, it's common for us Malaysians to maintain their 'sopan-santun' (as if!) by not openly telling a rude person to f**k off. You basically broke the norm, which was good, really.

ruby ahmad >>> hehe. i let my imagination run away with me sometimes. You know, the worst thing was, the guy had a kid with him (maybe nephew). The kid looked like he hero-worshipped his uncle. I really told the bugger off for the kid's sake, to show that not all his uncle's crap attitude should be followed. Thanks for visiting.

The Pisces Man >>> you should count yourself lucky u couldn't hear the noise. sopan-santun is good but sometimes you have to break the norm when it's required. (it also helps if you are bigger than the person you are telling off). btw, youtube is easy. u just need a camera phone and a free youtube account.

Hmm.. I would've been a little less eloquent and told him straight to shut the fucking thing off or I will. Then if he doesn't I'd beat him with my baton until he willingly does my bidding or until he passes out.

...

I want a speaker mp3 phone too.

he'd probably be ecstatic for this 15 mins of fame on your blog :D

haha.. this is funny man.

These irritating people seem to crop up at all places. I'm sure he's not like the only one. Probably in another LRT there are other such annoying passengers blasting their annoying music from their stereo handphones!

Geez! Even in SIngapore we face the sam e problem. Inconsiderate, annoying passengers who thought the other 99 or so passengers in the cabin share the same stupid music taste they have. God! I would love to make your imagination come true. Would even love to be part of it! Argh! The downside of technology!

You take LRT to work now?

izso said...

incognito : jail? If I were to beat up that person, everyone else in the LRT would probably point fingers at him and say he started it. I did it in self defense!

Ed said...

hahah yup..

we always blame the age factor! gone were the days we were the nuisance in public!

Now we lost the tolerance to tolerate annoying 'sampah masyarakat'.

Mr Incognito said...

ZuL >>> cool, bro. lesson learnt: always have your camera phone at the ready to shame inconsiderate idiots on the net.

TTG >>> i take the LRT and bus everywhere, eco-friendly guy that i am.

izso >>> I'd rather steal his phone and use it for myself (but not before deleting his mp3s)

Edroos >>> yeah. my old neighbours still hate me and my cheap car stereo. those were the days.

Malaysians are an inconsiderate lot. I have buffoons like that for neighbours. And other neighbours simply refuse to say anything for fear of being 'rude'.

Had I been there, me, too, would have no hesitation in joining and backing you up loudly.

I suppose this is what is meant by our ex-PM - first class infrastructure with third world mentality.

Malaysians simply don't deserve progress.

Lancashire Rose >>> haha. i just need to look out for the angry looking lady on the lrt.
